Voting Should be Simple
Whether you choose to vote by mail or in person, there should be an easy way to figure out exactly when and where you can vote and what materials you need in order to do so. With rules and regulations varying across the U.S. states and counties, we needed a flexible solution that worked for most people.
Our goal was to create a central resource for voters to see all deadlines, requirements, polling locations and vote-by-mail procedures, based on their voting jurisdiction.
Before we started building, we did some research to get an idea of all the ways a U.S. citizen could vote. We thought about who would most benefit from our work and solidified our overall goal: make voting simple for everyone.
We started building, constantly iterating and adjusting as new information was released closer to election day.
By election day, we had built a fully functional tool that, using a home address, could tell a user what options were available for them to vote. We had to take into consideration and aggregate all relevant data, by county, for: registration deadlines, vote-by-mail regulations, ballot drop-box locations and rules, polling location hours and regulations, etc.
From the home screen, the user can see a general overview of vote-by-mail procedures in their state. By entering their home address, they are provided with a map that shows polling sites, early voting locations, and ballot drop-off locations, with all available details for each.
